Synthesis, Structure and Material Applications of Bismuth and Gold Coordination Polymers, Supported by Nitrogen Donor Ligands.

Techniques and skills - Single crystal X-ray crystallography (XRD) , Raman spectroscopy , FT-IR spectroscopy, Elemental analysis ,Solid state emission spectroscopy, Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA ).


Responsibilities include;


  • Prepare a high-quality single crystal of the material of interest and
    Mounting the Crystal onto a suitable goniometer head.
  • Data Collection by producing a series of intensity measurements as a function of the diffraction angle.
  • Data Processing by processing the collected data using software provided by the diffractometer manufacturer.
  • Data Analysis by Analyzing the processed data to extract information about the crystal structure. This involves indexing the diffraction peaks to determine the lattice parameters and space group, calculating the structure factors
  • Solving and refining the crystal structure using appropriate software like suitable crystallographic software package for structure solution and refinement. Commonly used software includes SHELX, Olex-2.
  • Structure Validation by Validating the refined crystal structure using various quality indicators, such as R-factors.
  • Reporting: This includes prepare a detailed report summarizing the data collection parameters, data processing steps, crystallographic results, and any relevant discussions or interpretations.
  • Characterizing a crystal using various spectroscopic and elemental analysis techniques like FTIR, Solid State Emission Spectroscopy, Elemental Analysis and Raman Spectroscopy.



2. Mini projects at SFU;

  • Reformat the sequence saturation library of P450cam and to screen it against racemic phellandrene , Techniques and skills; Chromatography, Cell expression, PCR, Plasmid isolation, cellular transformation, cloning, SDS PAGE agarose gel, Protein purification through silica column.
