- BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE HOSPITAL : Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital Yaba is one of the extra ministerial parastatal under the ministry of health being controlled by federal government of Nigeria
- The hospital is rendering care to both chronic and and acute mentally ill patients, geriatrics with organic brain diseases, rehabilitation of drug abuse patients and child and adolescent psychiatry
- The hospital has two main parts situated in two main towns in Lagos state
- The head / main hospital is located in Yaba while the other which is the second wing of the hospital is located in Oshodi town of Lagos state
- The Yaba settlement of the hospital is housing about 13 wards including the Electro-convulsive therapy (ECT) unit, Out patient Clinic and Emergency unit consisting of 188 male beds and 120 female beds
- While the Oshodi hospital houses 8 wards including Emergency unit, Out patient clinic and Child and Adolescents unit, consisting of 150 male and 68 female beds in all
- Every nurse are posted from one ward to the other annually to ensure all the nurse experienced all wards and unit of the establishment
- DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create good rapport with patient to encourage trust
- Assess and talk to patients about their problems, discuss the best way to plan and deliver their care
- Preparation of patients for special treatments such as ECT, EEG,ECG etc
- Encourage patients to verbalize their minds, listen them, talk to and reassure patient
- Combat stigma and help patients and their families to manage it
- Organizing social events aimed at developing patient's social skills, disabuse their minds to reduce their feelings of isolation
