As a backend engineer in the Apps and Solutions team, responsible for building and maintaining bespoke, multi-tenant backend services that power mobile and web applications for major insurance partners.

• Led the end-to-end development of custom backend servers for new enterprise clients, XO Health and Premera, from architectural design and implementation to deployment and ongoing maintenance.
• Architected and implemented a caching layer to mitigate performance bottlenecks from the partner API, significantly improving API latency and system reliability for the Premera mobile and web applications.
• Owned the full software development lifecycle for client-specific backend services, establishing and upholding high standards for system health, availability, latency, code quality, and testing practices.

Contributed to core backend systems during a period of massive hyper-growth, as the company scaled from 40,000 to over 8.7 million daily orders.

Core Platform & Architecture

• Led the decomposition of a monolithic service by architecting and developing the Order State Management microservice, a critical system responsible for handling all orders, returns, and tracking. This initiative significantly improved the platform's scalability, flexibility, and maintainability.
• Engineered a highly efficient, event-driven workflow for return and exchange approvals. This design eliminated database load spikes and ensured smooth, real-time processing by replacing a batch process.
• Drove a major optimization of the shipment tracking system, reducing the average tracking update latency from 6 hours to under 5 minutes, which vastly improved the accuracy and timeliness of information for millions of customers.

Logistics & Fulfillment Optimization

• Designed and implemented the multi-leg shipment capability to handle complex international logistics, successfully reduced average delivery times from 17 to 11 days while cutting 15% cost per-shipment.
• Developed a shipment consolidation feature that intelligently bundled multiple customer orders into a single package, achieving a 2% reduction in overall shipment costs.
• Owned the technical design and implementation of new partner integrations, enabling seamless shipment manifesting, cancellation, and tracking with new logistics providers.
• Delivered key user-facing features, including the end-to-end door-step exchange functionality, to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency.

• Implemented Item location update microservice using Springboot and Kafka for async communications.
• Got hands on experience with technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, Cassandra, Kafka and GraphQL and learned best practices of software development.
