Student Government Committees

  • Health and Dental Plan Committee, 01/01/15, current, Student Union committee focused on health and dental insurance for UofA students. Achievements of note: Successfully advocated for the expansion of coverage for brand-name psychiatric medications, specifically for medications which treat anxiety and depression. Successfully advocated for the expansion of coverage for birth control medication to include more brand-name medications. These two changes were to insure that patients that were already successfully being treated by a particular anti-psychiatric medication or birth control would not have to swap medications in order to be covered under the insurance plan. Successfully advocated for increased dental coverage under the student plan.
  • Golden Bears and Pandas Legacy Fund Allocation Committee, 01/01/15, current, Student Union committee focused on disbursement of the “Legacy Fund and Athletic and Recreation fee”. Annual disbursement of approx. $250k, to subsidize sporting events, student promotions ect… Achievement of note as member of Committee: Successfully advocated that if Golden Bears Hockey (only varsity sport at the time with net profitability) would like to receive funding via the Legacy fund there must be free admission for all current UofA students to Golden Bears Hockey events.

Extracurricular Activities

Fundraising Committee Class of 2020, 01/01/16, 05/01/20

  • Headed Rock the DAT fundraiser between first and second year dental school (2016-2017).
  • Raised approximately $25,000 dollars for class graduation by lecturing and instructing future dental student on how to effectively write the dental aptitude test. The position involved modifying an existing teaching curriculum, organizing fellow classmates as instructors, and lecturing/providing hands-on instruction for approximately 16 plus hours every second weekend from July to February. Additionally organized 1 on 1 soap carving sessions prior to the DAT dates as a second source of revenue toward grad funds. Various other responsibilities, such as maintaining a social media page, online advertising, website design, coordinating and maintaining a PayPal for a small business, managing the day-to-day operations of a small business, booking various lecture spaces, fielding questions from prospective students, selling miscellaneous aptitude test materials, and coordinating travel and boarding for sessions held in Calgary.
  • Oversaw and supervised beverage services for Buccal Up 2018. The event resulted in a profit of approx. $5000 in beverage revenue for graduation. Organized members of the 2020 graduating class, purchased, stocked and maintained the bar for the event. Aquired Proserve certification to ensure responsible and safe service during event.
  • Orientation Week Committee, 01/01/17, current, Assisted in organizing orientation week for incoming class of 2021. Involved in organizing extracurricular activities to introduce members of the class of 2021 to the other current dental students, contacting potential sponsors for the event and assisting in set up and take down of various events at community halls.
