Research

Inclusion challenges faced by Deaf and hard-of-hearing elementary students in Ontario, As part of the OISE Master of Teaching program, I'm researching the inclusion challenges faced by Deaf and hard-of-hearing elementary students in Ontario. Using three semi-structured interviews and a literature review, my study explores integrating American Sign Language (ASL) into the elementary curriculum. The primary question is: "How can ASL integration in Ontario contribute to the well-being and inclusivity of Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing students?" Subsidiary questions cover ASL's role in reducing bullying, enhancing inclusion, fostering social cohesion, and addressing the shortage of Deaf educators. This research aims to highlight the needs of Deaf students and will be presented in February 2024 and published in the University of Toronto library.
