After attending as a camper for 10+ years, I worked at YMCA Camp Wanakita for two summers, both as a cabin counsellor as well as an inclusion counsellor. As an inclusion counsellor, I would live with a client for one or two weeks in a one-on-one capacity, and participate in camp side-by-side with a personalized schedule and routine.
Ice Rink Attendant
City Of Oakville
10.2016 - 03.2018
I worked as both a snack bar attendant/cashier and as an ice-rink attendant for two different hockey rinks in Oakville throughout high school. As a rink attendant I primarily maintained the zamboni (never got to drive it sadly), cleaned changing rooms, and maintained the property. As a snack bar attendant I served the customers of the hockey rink, stocked products, and processed payments.
Counsellor/Tripper/Virtual Counsellor
Camp Towhee - Integra
06.2019 - 03.2021
Camp Towhee is a residential therapeutic program in Haliburton, Ontario, that is modelled to resemble the experience of a "mainstream" summer camp. Each client, or camper, has a dual-diagnosis of a learning disability that is complicated by a mental health challenge. In 2019, I began working at Camp Towhee as a "tripper," taking 2-3 cabins of campers on canoe trips each session. Between trips, I facilitated outdoor activities for the different cabins such as canoeing skills or fire building. For the final session of the 2019 summer I became a full-time cabin counsellor while still retaining my tripper responsibilities.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, I worked for Camp Towhee in a number of virtual positions, including facilitating a "movie club," a "DnD club," as well as several other programs/activities.
Counsellor Supervisor
Camp Towhee - Child Development Institute
06.2022 - 08.2023
Once Camp Towhee was able to re-open, I returned in the position of counsellor supervisor. I have now worked in this position for two summers (2022-2023). I primarily supervise and support counsellors with any major challenges occurring with their campers, train new staff on Towhee's therapeutic approaches, help facilitate activities (campfires, theme days, etc.), as well as interact first-hand with our campers myself in many different capacities.
