Accomplishments

  • Authored a technical report with policy recommendations to promote healthy child development based on identifying assets, resources, challenges, and gaps by conducting a literature review; environmental scan of Municipal, Provincial, and Federal initiatives; and interviewing stakeholders.
  • Co-produced, co-wrote, narrated and edited a 6-episode podcast series about housing and health in Toronto featuring Toronto residents, academics, advocates, equity groups, and municipal leaders.
  • In partnership with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the Globe and Mail, organized Canada’s first ever forum to foster dialogue between public health policymakers, suicide prevention experts, and senior media representatives to build consensus on shared parameters around responsible reporting on suicide. Co-authored a joint publication on the successes and challenges of promoting and upholding responsible media reporting on suicide.
  • Facilitated communication, minimized conflict between and maintained effective working relationships with elected officials, City divisions (i.e. Transportation Services, Parks and Recreation, etc.), not-for-profit organizations, cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers; and synthesized evidence on the health and economic benefits and risks associated with active transportation, and co-authored a Healthy Toronto By Design Report, entitled Road to Health: Improving Walking and Cycling in Toronto.
  • Led the development of Toronto Public Health's comprehensive Action Plan to prevent, identify and respond to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). The plan was unanimously adopted by both the Board of Health and City Council. The plan was recognized by the Chief Medical Officer of Health of Ontario for addressing the unique and intersecting issues that affect Indigenous, LGBTQ2S and other vulnerable communities.
  • Managed all aspects of the adoption of a new environmental tool to measure and report air pollution (the Air Quality Health Index), including program design, budget management, awarding and evaluating requests for proposals, implementation, communication plans and knowledge exchange, evaluation and reporting mechanisms, including annual reports to funders, provincial and federal government, and multiple stakeholders.
  • Conducted consultations with residents, various vehicle manufacturers and operators, bylaw officers, and City staff to propose several changes to the idling bylaw, all of which were adopted by City Council.
