I love my job(s). I am employed in two full-time positions with the company. My first is as Morning Host where I get to chat about the top stories of the day, promote local events and charities, stir the pot with contentious issues and generally wake up everyone in the morning. It is the fun side of my job and I especially love doing radiothons and helping local charities raise funds and/or awareness.
The second is as Regional News Anchor/Reporter for the districts of Manitoulin, Algoma and Sudbury, gathering stories and photos throughout the day to distribute on air and on line to sister stations and other affiliates.
So, in reality, there is really no days off since news and events never take a break, but I love what I do ... the light side in the morning, the more serious side the rest of the day, it is a nice balance, and in between volunteer, promote and have fun!
I love pageantry ... having been involved in pageants since 18 years of age, the empowerment of women through and by media is my mainstay in helping young women find themselves and achieve their goals.
I love volunteering ... whether it is an hour making a craft, a 12-hour radiothon or a weekend fundraiser, being out and about in the communities I serve is a huge part of what I do ... promotion on air and online of various local events is important and valuable for those agencies that cannot afford advertising, but it is also important that there be a physical presence, radio is no longer just for the ear ... we have websites that need photos and video, so being a multi-media journalist and radio talent is the only way to go.
I love reading ... give me a good a book, a cuppa of java and I am good to go for hours, the perfect way for 'me' time to relax.
I love painting ... Bob Ross is my hero, I love wet on wet painting, but also do watercolour, markers, and I am known for painting the windows in winter.
I love fishing ... yes, I handle my own bait and have won many a fishing contest, who can complain spending hours on the water and perhaps catching dinner.
I love life ... life has its challenges and if you learn something new every day, you have accomplished something. embrace every day as if it was your last, share a smile, a kind word, encouragement, you can simply change the world that way ...
