Ron Nolan

Summary

I am interested in the Greenkeeper position as I have recently re-located to Kelowna and am semi-retired. My goal is to work the next 10-15 years at the golf course and ski in the winter.

My last position was with Tolko Industries operating a forklift at the lumber mill in Lavington for 4.5 years. The job was fast paced and physically demanding with many risks. Safety training was mandatory. It was also mentally challenging in that you needed to follow a schematic to load the railcar with the proper grade, length and width of wood in a timely manner. I was also responsible for the training of new forklift operators which included safe operation of the vehicle, where to place the wood in the lumberyard and the overall operations of the mill. Staff turnover was high so 50% of my time was spent training new staff.

Other skills I have from my previous jobs and construction projects include - Operation of power equipment: forklift, lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, scissor lift, and a farm tractor. I am also proficient on most hand tools including – saws, drills, sanders, etc.

Passion for the game - I am an avid golfer and have golfed my whole life; competed as a junior and have played many courses throughout the Okanagan. My handicap is +1. I have been a member at Spallumcheen Golf and Country for the last 10 years and I have seen firsthand how important proper course maintenance is. Just in the last couple of years our superintendent was replaced, and we have seen a significant improvement in the course in terms of turf condition and watering.

Other passions include snowboarding, ski touring, mountain biking, surfing, and hiking.

I am trustworthy and dependable – In the last 30 years I have worked at 2 companies and have had an excellent performance and attendance record.
