Physiotherapy Clinical Placement Experience

Clinical Placement 1: May 1 - June 9, 2023, Hants Community Hospital (225 hours). Focused on acute care, including pneumonia, falls, UTIs, and patients awaiting long-term care or discharge. Emphasis on patient mobilization and discharge planning.

Clinical Placement 2: June 22 - July 28, 2023, QE II Halifax Infirmary (225 hours) on Unit 8.1 (Geriatric Medicine/Orthopedics). Patients had UTIs, delirium, CHF, and hip fractures. Also spent time in the VG ICU and the cardiac unit. Involved assessments, patient education, and discharge planning.

Clinical Placement 3: Jan 8 - Feb 16, 2024, Lifemark Cobequid (225 hours). Worked with MSK conditions and some neurological/respiratory cases. Focused on assessments, treatment, and patient education.

Clinical Placement 4: Sept 3 - Oct 11, 2024, QE II Halifax Infirmary (225 hours) on the Neurosurgery unit (7.3). Patients included those with TBI, SAH, hydrocephalus, brain tumors, and spinal injuries. Responsibilities included assessments, mobilization, and ensuring safe discharge.

Clinical Placement 5: Oct 15 - Nov 22, 2024, PT Health Fall River (225 hours). Primarily private MSK patients, with some WCB and MVA cases. Involved assessments, treatment, and education.

Volunteer Experience

  • 2020 Fit For Life - After school program for young children to get them physically active. Help transport children from their school and walk them to StFX where the program took place. Had to prepare snacks for the children. Developed and lead children through games and activities. Ensured safety of the children.
  • 2019-2021 Saint Francis Xavier Men's Hockey Team Student Therapist - Assisted athletic injuries. Quickly responded to injuries or emergencies which occurred during games or practices. learned new athletic tape job procedures for particular athletes. Needed to think quickly on my feet when an injury occurred. Interprofessional collaboration with coaches, team doctors, therapists and athletes. Ensured that medical supplies was in stock and make sure all equipment needed was prepared for road trips. Act as first responder to athletic injuries.
