Demonstrated Effectiveness in HR Leadership

  • Manufacturing Operating System (MOS): Leadership role in developing and implementing Viking's MOS as the Company transitioned from a Tier-1 parts manufacturer to an aircraft OEM. HR transitioned from a transaction-based service provider to the organization, evolving into a strong and collaborative strategic business partner to support growth of the business from 80 to 500 people. Involved in all aspects of business planning including budgeting, SIOP (Sales Inventory Operations Planning) and Plant, and Business-level Monthly Operating Reviews.
  • Performance Management System: Spearheaded a comprehensive, merit-based performance management system that was conducted enterprise-wide on an annual basis. Results from the appraisal system directly informed and provided data into the succession planning of the organization.
  • Labour Relations: Inherited a conflict-based Union relationship and continually evolved the relationship into a pro-active management engagement of Union issues. Engaged labour relations style proved to have positive impacts, including the last collective bargaining negotiation completing in 3 days with a 5-year collective agreement. Very low grievance activity (Total of 3 grievances in 2020).
  • Safety Culture: Lead team to achieve OSSE Certification (Occupational Safety Standard Of Excellence) and COR (Certificate of Recognition). Safety performance exceeded industry standards, with average claims cost 71% below that of our Rate Group - $425k in WorksafeBC premiums were saved by diligent claims management, return to work programs, work hardening programs and active oversight of all OHS systems.
  • Viking Academy: Pioneered an aerospace manufacturing training program to train unskilled trainees to become effective aircraft assemblers. Over 10 years, 100 employees enrolled through the program with a 75% graduation rate. This training strategy aided Viking to sustain corporate growth during extreme labour shortages.
