Projects

An efficient Phthalocyanine photo-catalyst for esterification of biomass-derived Levulinic acid, 11/01/18, 04/30/19, The project optimized the esterification of levulinic acid (LA) with various alcohols to produce Levulinate esters, primarily, octyl levulinate, a fuel additive. Key parameters such as reaction time, molar ratio (LA at 1:1.5), and light source were varied to enhance LA conversion. Notably, the incorporation of octyl levulinate into diesel fuel has the potential to reduce diesel prices by approximately 20%. This cost reduction is attributed to the enhanced fuel efficiency and the partial replacement of conventional diesel components with a renewable, biomass-derived additive.
