I gained experience and knowledge about the whole process of constructing a building. Was responsible for taking deliveries, sorting them, and then putting them in storage units. Learned how to operate a forklift and a small excavator and assisted a wide variety of very skilled tradespeople by doing skilled labor. Assisted in managing meetings and communicating with different crews on and off the site.
Cleaned 16 rooms a day and learned the process of deep cleaning houses/rooms. Covered front desk shifts a few times so I learned the process of checking guests in and out using a software called ‘Matrix’.

I took this job as part of my J-1 Student Exchange Program, which I applied to during my first year of college. I perfected my English and learned how to efficiently clean rooms and houses. Everybody was getting paid according to how much they cleaned, so I would do approximately 13 hours of work for an 8-hour shift, 6 days a week.
My first job. I learned how to carry a tray, take orders, give recommendations, and work in a fast-paced environment in which I had to take care of guests' needs while communicating with other staff members.
