I am writing to express my interest in the part-time sales associate position at The Paper Place. I am a fourth year international student studying Drawing and Painting at Ocad University. I am taking three courses this term.
The Paper Place has always been one of my favorite stores in Toronto, and I am genuinely excited at the possibility of working here. I have been joining art studios and workshops creating drawings and ceramics since childhood. I have also been involved in various paper arts. In 2019 I made wearable paper mache headpieces which were featured at an exhibition in Ocad, called "ReUse Depot". The exhibition was focused on repurposing materials. Later that year I made three paper cuts in my classes. These were inspired by the folk art, Jewish paper cuts. During my studies at Ocad I have taken a book binding workshop where we made three different types of simple booklets. I have also taken a printing course and made woodblock and linol prints. During my first year I took a course called 3D Pop Ups and Paper Cut Outs where we learned to make various pop up cards.
In terms of work experience, I have gained valuable customer service skills while assisting customers and taking orders at our family's textile shop in Istanbul, Turkey. Later, I started working at an art studio which specializes in assisting high school students pursuing fine arts, fashion, product design and architecture degrees. We helped them with drawing skills and preparing their portfolios. During this process, we worked alongside the students and developed creative projects and further explored creativity, crafts and skills. At both of my work experiences, I was involved with the organization and management of our spaces, compartmentalizing our supplies and making sure the place is tidy.
I am open and excited about learning and I would be thrilled at an opportunity to work at The Paper Place where we can experience the beauty of paper and card creations.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to hearing from you,
Best,
Rayka
