
I have acquired 17 years of law enforcement experience as a Peace Officer (Juvenile Officer) with the Imperial County Probation Department in providing safety and security for the juvenile detention facility and was assigned to joint department field operations. I transported inmates to and from activities and act as a group leader and initiate investigations on evolving incidents that compromise the interests and mission of Imperial County Probation Department and assist on other investigations in effort to collaborate with other agencies in pursuit of prosecution and justice such as Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Department of Homeland Security: Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), United States Border Patrol, United States Marshal Service, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, California Highway Patrol, Imperial County Sheriff's Office and local Police Departments such as El Centro, Brawley, Imperial, Calexico and Holtville Police Department. Ensured the safety and security of Juvenile Detention Facility that houses juvenile offenders, supervise through constant observation of wards under the custody of Imperial County Probation. Provided the resources necessary in effort to assist in-custody Juvenile offenders in rehabilitation. Facilitated group discussions, providing counseling and work with medical professionals on treatment for juvenile offenders. As a Juvenile Officer I ensured facility security by routinely inspecting buildings, living quarters and packages for contraband and conduct "pat downs" on juvenile offenders. I monitored inmates who had a special risk or security status and enforce facility rules and regulations. I documented and reported disruptive or disturbing behavior and security breaches. I was responsible for safe transportation to various correction or mental health facilities, other juvenile halls, court proceedings and medical appointments. I also provided transportation and legal documentation on extradition and jurisdiction cases. My duties often include counseling and group discussion sessions designed to help rehabilitate and teach basic life skills while on duty inside the Juvenile Detention Facility. I worked with the therapeutic treatment teams to determine and employ appropriate programs. I helped facilitate group discussions; teach problem-solving skills, behavioral management and accountability; and make observations to supervisors on the behavioral and functional progress of juvenile offenders. I am also fluent in Spanish to assist non-English-speaking offenders who are brought in by the Department of Homeland Security/Border Patrol due to illegal immigration, drug smuggling and human trafficking. I observed, recorded and reported health problems as well as follow medical orders, dispensed medications, and treatment as needed and scheduled. I conducted close and constant work with inmates to notice or detect changes in health or behavior and submit referrals to the Health Department and Behavioral Health Department if required. I provided vocational counseling for offenders and counseling referrals for juveniles' family members or victims. I made recommendations for detaining or releasing juveniles by utilizing the Detention Risk and Assessment Instrument (DRAI) system and/or override the system to make a determination on the severity of crime committed or penal code violated, submitted progress reports and maintain inmate records of intake process. I am trained and prepared to handle under pressure situations and emergencies: fights, fires, escapes, and other situations that must be dealt with calmly and according to procedure and guidelines. I have also had the privilege to collaborate and train (as previously mentioned) with several Law Enforcement agencies e.g. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), United States Marshall Service, Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), California Highway Patrol (CHP), Imperial County Sheriff's Office (ICSO) and local police departments such as El Centro Police Department, Brawley Police Department, on gathering case-sensitive information and evidence for pending trials and/or warrant serving operations. I was a member of the Critical Response Team, I assisted in developing policies that will create protocol to efficiently and safely execute to respond to urgent crisis situations e.g. Natural disasters, riots, terrorists and bomb threats and fatalities and the proper and well-trained utilization of breathing apparatuses, medical kits, extraction equipment and other federally and state certified life-saving equipment and devices such as automatic, defibrillator devices, etc... I have been assigned to Special Detail Field Operations with the Street Interdiction Team (S.I.T.) which entailed transportation of adult and juvenile detainees and building infiltration, drug seizure and intelligence gathering details. The Street Interdiction Team (SIT) is a California State Agency operated by joint departments that apprehends offenders and conducts search and seizures on suspected illegal drug offenders and court violators’ warrants that were served then transported to the local county jail for booking. I possess the experience and skills by being placed in charge of and searching for warrants that either need to be updated, activated and/or closed through the Spellman database system. I have also participated in Federal and State mandated STC training for 40 hours or more on an annual basis, STC consisted of a wide variety of field related trainings: defensive driving tactics, anti-terrorism, anti-child abduction, pharmaceutical and illicit drug identification and recognition, verbal and physical de-escalation and negotiation tactics.

Prior to the field in which I was employed I also had the privilege in learning other trades that have broaden my experience hence my knowledge which has resulted in the work ethic that I currently possess. These employment opportunities have helped me acquire the diligence, commitment and etiquette in providing the quality of work that I have to offer, which makes me an important and efficient asset to any agency.
