I started off my mechanical career working in dealership truck shops. I not only learned how to be a good mechanic, but it also taught me to work efficiently and maintain a good work ethic.
Moving to the mining industry was mainly done for the 7 and 7 shift that allowed more family time.
After many years with Newgold I transfer into the rebuild program. We mainly rebuilt cat Ad45 haul trucks and r1600 and 2900 scoops. I have very much enjoyed work on those projects, from teardown, cleaning and inspection, to complete reassembly. Unfortunately new gold is ending the rebuild program and I will be going back on shift. I realize that I don't want this type of work to end for me. I've had no thoughts of leaving Newgold, they are a great company that have treated me well. Unfortunately I would be required to go and work underground again and that does not interest me at this stage in my career..
Working on cat equipment has been a very positive experience for me, and I would very much like to continue with that.
Currently I have been working for the last 3 years in the equipment rebuild department. Mainly rebuilding cat Ad45 haul trucks and r1600 and 2900 scoops.
Previously I have been working on our various mining equipment doing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs.
Preventative maintenance and repairs of commercial highway trucks.
