Research Interests

  • Study of corrosion of magnesium alloys used in the automotive industry and to predict corrosion of magnesium alloys with complex microstructure and reactivity.
  • To develop analytical methods to quantify multidrug resistance.
  • To develop methods for the study of microphysical and chemical processes in atmospheric aerosol particles.
  • To develop new catalytic processes that convert current bio-refining “waste” into important commodity chemicals.
  • To develop smart and multi-tasking nanomaterials for biomedical applications.
  • Development of HPLC, GC-MS methods for the separation and detection of drugs.

Work Done

  • Two compounds namely; 6-Mehtoxymallein and β sitosterol – 3-α-L rhamnopyranoside has been isolated from flowers of Kigelia Pinnata and were characterized by spectral data obtained from 1H NMR, and IR. A dissertation work on “Chemical investigations of Kigelia Pinnata DC. Fruits as my original work has been submitted.
  • During my M.Phil in chemistry I studied about the corrosion inhibitors for aluminium metal for controlling problems in organic acids. Weight loss and optical microscopic techniques were employed to carry out the experiments under the supervision of Dr. H.K. Moudgil (Reference).
  • Chromatography system comprising phosphate buffer (0.004M) pH 4.0, acetonitrile, in ratio of 70:30 (v/v) at a constant flow rate of 1.0 ml/min as mobile phase, Dionex Acclaim 120 C18 column (4.6 × 250 mm; 5μm) as stationary phase and detector wavelength at 254 nm. This gave the well resolved, sharp peaks for the Cinoxacin (a), Lomefloxacin (b), Difloxacin (c), Nalidixic Acid (d) enoxacin with retention times of 3.8, 5.75, 9.273, 24.306, 3.3 min. respectively.

Projects

Various categories of drugs like anti-diabetic drugs, antidepressant drugs, analgesics and antiepileptic drugs has been studied and new methods for its separation has been developed using HPLC-UV Detector. A review of literature has been done to develop a simple rapid and sensitive method for the determination of five fluoroquinolones using SPME-HPLC with fluorescence and UV detection.
