Volunteer Experience

  • Educator Leadership Institute (ELI), Waterloo, ON, Canada, 2019-current, I volunteer with ELI under Dr. Steve Sider, helping expand their teacher development work (Sustainable Development Goal 4) to include various francophone nations in Africa. Currently, ELI works in Haiti, Nepal, Ghana, and Egypt. In August, 2023, I attended the Africa Roundtable Conference (ACSI) in Kigali, Rwanda where schools from 37 nations met to discuss the future of education in Africa.
  • Fadhili Trust, Kipserian, Kenya, 2012-current, Fadhili Trust is a Kenyan organization that started in 2001 as an outreach to people infected/affected by HIV & AIDS. Since then, its core ministries are encouraging conservation agriculture and facilitating Village Savings and Loans Associations in communities seeking to finance their income initiatives. As a side project, leaders at Fadhili identify vulnerable children who are not in school. As a volunteer, I fundraise for tuition support. We provide for 25-35 students a year.
  • Moyaa Shea Products Ltd., Oakville, ON, Canada, 2012-2016, Through Partner’s Worldwide, a small group at our church was introduced to Blessed Organic Release, a grass roots business in Pader, Northern Uganda. To expand markets for farmers in this region, we started Moyaa Shea Products, importing and selling Shea Butter to increase income for subsistence farmers in this part of Uganda – an area that has a long history of conflict. This is a trade, not aid, initiative. I led this group until we sold the business to a company that continues to work with people in Northern Uganda and sell Moyaa Shea Butter.
  • Ulungu-Quinte Partnership, Peterborough, ON, Canada, 2002-2010, This 9-year partnership had a mandate to link several churches in the Peterborough, Ontario area with a rural community called Ulungu, in Eastern Kenya. Our mission was to support the people of Ulungu as they implemented their community development vision and their desire to provide for the many children infected/affected by HIV/AIDS. Drilling a well, building a water distribution system, constructing a new school, expanding educational opportunities, supporting HIV/AIDS education, and setting up a new health clinic were some of the local initiatives. This partnership was under the guidance and counsel of World Renew Canada.
