I am a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) with an extensive career direct patient care, triage and care coordination in both fast-paced and normal work environments. I will remain calm in critical situations and skillfully handle difficult patients and high-stress situations. I have been consistently developing strong relationships with patients and families through empathetic communication, respectful attitude and excellent client service. I have built a strong relationship of trust amongst the people in our service area. Many tell me they feel relieved when they see me on-duty when they come to the emergency room. That they feel safer and confident they will get the care they need. Families of inpatients have also expressed similar feelings about my nursing care and skill. I have no issues with communicating with whatever health care provider or other discipline I need to in order to advocate for my patients. I enjoy being able to point a patient in the right direction to get the care they need if it's not available at our facility. I will go the "extra mile" to empathy, to help ease their stress. Even if that is just offering patients who have been waiting for hours in the ER a drink of water or a snack for a diabetic who's been waiting beyond a meal time. To extend that offer to their support person.
I have an intimate working knowledge of what it takes to offer supportive care to LGBTQ+ members of our community. I have provided care to and work with people from a wide range of nationalities, cultures and faiths over the years, especially during my time in the USA.
I have worked extensively with Meditech computer charting and pretty much know it inside out. I would need training on the CRMS and EMR systems.
I provide care to patients with diabetes, COPD, heart failure, liver failure and kidney disease on a regular basis. I have cared for mental health disorders but it's typically in the ER environment or at home in my personal life with family members who suffer with it.
Providing care for child bearing women and they're families to include antinatal and labour and delivery care. Some postpartum and nursery care.
Circulated for c-sections, tubal ligations, D&C
Provided care for high risk pregnancies
Worked in collaboration with GP, Obstetricians, RT, other nurses, anesthesiologists, neonatologist, pediatricians, midwives, dulas, scrub techs.
Charge nurse duties including patient assignments/reassignment as care needs changed, attending each birth as extra help for neonatal care, helping resolve any issues that arouse.
Attained my NCC national certification for Inpatient Obstetrical Nursing during this time as well as national certification in Electronic fetal monitoring.
This was a busy unit with a birth rate of 150 to 200 births per month while I was employed there. I cared for placental abruptions, uterine ruptures, eclampsia, postpartum hemmoriage, fetal loss and more.
This was a travel position and I worked in 4 different facilities during this time. All were labor and delivery positions with some newborn and postpartum care.
Duties similar to my other L&D jobs.
This was my first travel staffing company. I didn't renew with them as there were issues with pay consistency and communications. When this assignment ended I switched to Cross Country Staffing.
This assignment was in York, PA in a high risk referral center for Labour and Delivery. They averaged 250 to 300 births per month. It was the first time I had worked with computer charting and centralized fetal monitoring. In my role here there was the usual list of disciplines you work with in L&D plus a perinatalogist had his clinic down the hall. I cared for a wider variety of clients here with high risk, complicated pregnancies than anywhere else. It was a great learning experience.
The Unit manager told me at the end of my assignment that I was the first travel nurse they had hired and was very pleased with the outcome.
Provided patient care OB patients through the antinatal, perinatal, post partum and newborn care plus pre and post op care of Gyne patients. I provided neonatal care in the OR for c-sections. Helped out in Emerg, medicine and ICU when patient numbers on OB was down. I delivered many, many babies during this time. I learned to monitor a labouring patient and identify early signs of complications, provide emergency care and communicate patient condition to the physician. I helped mentor nursing students, new nurses and medical students in Obstetrical care.
Providing general nursing care to Pediatrics, Medical, surgical, geriatric and obstetrical patients. I had many great role models in this time who instilled in me the importance of quality basic care.
This was my first job. The nurses I worked with in this facility came from the cottage hospital era and were very comfortable functioning independently. They were pivotal in instilling those same qualities in me. My job included providing nursing care to child bearing women, newborns and gyne care to women of all ages. Nurses in this unit provided much of the care throughout the labor process. The doctor didn't want to be called until the baby was crowning or there were complications that required his/her care before that. It was a great place to learn to be independent in your practice while having the back-up of many very experienced nurses and doctors.
My skills list after 34 years of full time nursing is innumerable In addition to the basic bedside nursing skills, assessment skills, prioritization of patient care needs, developing individualized care plans that incorporate other members of a multidisciplinary team, advocating for patient and family, safe medication administration, etc I have many advance nursing skills as well Including CVAD care, providing care to critically ill patients, trauma patients and acute coronary patients Palliative care has become a daily part of my work life I have certifications in Advanced Cardiac life supports, Canadian Acuity Triage System, Pediatric Advanced Life support, Trauma Nursing Core Course, Defibrilation, Suturing and wound closure, Casting, Use of new iGel intubation technique, Cardiac rhythm interpretation, Gentle persuasive approach and Sexaul assault kit and care of the victim I have done continuing education sessions on wound care over the years I still know how to preform pelvic exams although I haven't done enough since moving here to keep up my proficiency
