First Nation Lead

  • As a First Nation Lead, my assignment was to work with eleven schools in the Bathurst, Dalhousie and Campbellton areas, promoting and implementing First Nation education, cultural and perspectives into all aspects of public schools
  • Initiatives are as follows but not limited to: ASD-N Opening Days and leading professional development throughout the year offering sessions based on First Nations Education and general information for all Educators that support professional learning for teachers focusing on Indigenous Education and incorporating the TRC Calls to Action for Education into School Practice
  • Conducting Blanket Exercises as a lead facilitator with the First Nation Education team and Elders for various schools’ staffs, student groups and Deputy Minister of Education team, etc
  • Presenting at the World Indigenous Peoples Conference on Education in Australia
  • Sourced funding for school and classroom initiatives through grant and proposal writing
  • Sit on the NBTA Elementary Council as part of the treasury officer as well as the local NBTA Branch committee as secretary
  • I am working as lead facilitator on the First Nation Mental Health Literacy curriculum for five provinces and have sat and advised Senators Kutcher and Greenwood on implementation of a mental health literate nation

  • While working as part of the council team we strove to provide the community of Eel River Bar a transparent and responsible government whose focus was on budget reduction, governance and human resource policies, education and the overall health of the community at large
  • Wrote and submitted funding proposals for educational activities and programs, governance and human resource policies with success
  • Organized and implemented various family and community activities to promote cohesive and healthy families
  • Implemented and maintained the administration processes associated with hosting a community and afterschool culture and Mi'kmaq language class

  • As part of the Enhancement Committee we planned and organized staff, students and programs under the Enhancement Agreement

Accomplishments

Spearheaded collaborative teams to organized and implemented multiple cultural celebrations and programs within the Anglophone North School Districts kindergarten to grade 12 schools. Applying and receiving grant funding to cover costs associated with celebrations, construction designs and Mi'kmaq language signage throughout eleven schools within in my zone of ASDN.
