As a labourer and a track-hoe operator for The Dirt Merchant, my responsibilities include:
- Repairing subsidence- This is done by stripping back top-soil, reconstructing the clay, and then redistributing soil. The finished product should look natural and ensure proper drainage off of right-of-way.
- Hydrovac- Before any reclamation can be done over a pipeline, we need to hydrovac until we can see the pipe to make sure we know the depth of it.
- Seasonal equipment maintenance- This involves servicing, washing, and welding.
- Daily equipment maintenance- This involves filling out equipment inspection documents each morning to check things like oil, tires, lights, antifreeze, DEF, fuel, etc. As well as thoroughly greasing machines.
- Picking rocks off of right-of-ways and transporting with a UTV.
- Pumping water off of right-of-ways.
- Maintaining a tidy workspace- At the end of each day we are expected to tidy the cabs in our machines and vehicles as well as the company job trailer.
- Proper training- To take care of my responsibilities on site as an employee of The Dirt Merchant I am required to have certifications of training in Ground Disturbance Level 2, H2S, UTV Operator Course, Interpipeline Orientation, WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and Standard First Aid.
