1. Produce demographic projections for standard Alberta geographic regions in the fiscal and economic forecasts for the GOA;

2. Develop and maintain a program to produce population estimates for standard Alberta geographic regions;

3. Prepare demographic reports analysing current and future demographic trends in Alberta to ensure Finance is kept fully apprised of new and emerging issues;

4. Create new and evaluate current demographic models and data sources to improve the quality and timeliness of provincial demographic analyses and projections;

5. Through ongoing research and participation on cross-government working groups and committees, maintain a high level of awareness on current and emerging demographic trends within the province;

6. Provide technical advice and evaluations of demographic analyses and population projections prepared by other organizations external to Treasury Board and Finance;

7. Develop, maintain and enhance population projection and estimation models and associated data bases for the province and various sub-regions.

8. Provide advice, expertise and assistance on subject areas of specialization to facilitate decision making and policy analysis.

  • Proactively brief senior officials, managers and staff on the latest demographic trends and issues.
  • Initiate, develop and complete socio-economic and demographic analyses using data from primary and secondary sources to ensure they are timely, accurate and meet the needs of both Finance and GOA for fiscal and economic planning initiatives.
  • Partner with fellow experts (managers, technical staff etc) and external users to produce custom demographic analyses and projections to meet special requests that are of significant, recognized value to GOA goals and initiatives in the demographic area (e.g Land Use Framework, CRISP).

9. Maintain liaisons with appropriate federal and provincial government counterparts to keep apprised on new developments in the area of demographic statistics and data development.

10. Through individual research, study or course work keeps current with leading edge analytical research and analysis techniques, concepts and theories in the areas of assigned responsibility.

  • Secured a US$5,000,000 for 3-year project grant from CDC through a Cooperative Agreement (CoAg) for Strengthening Health Service Delivery through monitoring maternal health outcomes in rural health centers of Southern, Central, Lusaka, Eastern and Luapula provinces.
  • Contributed to reduction of maternal mortality from 790 per 100,000 live births at baseline to 328 per 100, 000 live births at end-line in the target provinces, through related project activities.
  • Oversaw the building of a 350-capacity lecture theatre, 5 offices, computer lab and 30-seater master’s classroom with funds from the CDC CoAg. A project which directly improved teaching and office space
  • Managed quality assurance program, including on-site evaluations and internal audits in line with CDC and UNZA guidelines.
  • Led CoAg team in delivery of project activities, resulting in timely achievement of project outcomes.
  • Drove operational improvements which resulted in savings and improved project results.
