For over 20 years Nilesh Patel has focused on producing the stories of us coming together. Through this intention Roaming Pictures has focused on supporting the development of racialized creatives in film & television resulting in the creation of film & video works produced for community groups, private clients, and broadcast that have garnered awards for their creativity and social awareness. Nilesh has extensive experience working with marginalized communities to represent issues of concern to them, and mentor them through the process of telling their own stories. Whether creating films and videos for art installations, theatrical release or for television broadcast, Nilesh is committed to helping community groups and individuals to clarify, articulate and achieve their creative goals.

  • Peace it Together unites youth from opposing sides of a conflict for a program of dialogue and filmmaking

  • A community arts program located in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver that utilizes filmmaking and visual art to engage and employ at-risk youth
  • Duties include mentoring youth through all of the artistic, creative, and technical aspects of film and video production, coordinating productions, managing budgets, liaising with partners, funders, and admin
  • This immersive film and work program culminated in job placements in the film and television industry.

  • Program Coordinator and Producing Intern for the 2004 and 2005 Reel Diversity Documentary Film competition for the Pacific and Yukon Centre of the NFB

  • EXODUS 72 - 40 min Documentary, Nilesh Patel, 2024, Canada Council of the Arts & BC Arts Council, Exodus 72 is a tapestry of archives, theatre and interviews which tells of the individual and collective experiences of expulsion, trauma, and survival of the Ugandan Asians upon their exile from Uganda to Canada by Idi Amin in 1972 which created Canada's first ever refugee policy.
