Accomplishments

  • I’ve been able to transform what was once a dorm into a program designed to help students by providing a much-needed cultural component which empowers them to make better decisions and utilize culture as a preventative measure. Despite having limited resources in this department, I have managed to implement many culturally relevant activities on and off campus, I have brought talking circles, Bon Fires, Sweat Lodge and Wellbriety meetings to help our students. I have also arranged several staff trainings (at no cost to the school) such as Safe Talk, Transference vs. Counter transference, CPR and mental health first aid. I’ve applied to have staff trained on how to conduct talking circles and just received approval to have facilitator training on drugs and culture don’t mix. By offering all these opportunities to students and staff while in Choice I have helped in supporting our mission of providing high quality educational to our Native youth.
  • I was successful in making sure everyone's needs were met and that we all worked well and communicated with each other. I ran the dorm club which did very well and made sure all students felt welcome to join and get involved. My staff started the medication logging which then was refined and is now used in all dorms. We always had activities planned for the students on the weekend and did our best to keep them busy. Held monthly meetings with the staff where we would discuss any concerns and work at addressing them instead of letting them get out of hand. I was the youngest dorm manager to be a manager at the time but learned fast and exceled at it.

I have received great evaluations from all my supervisors and have been complimented on my ability to work independently as well as with others. I need little direction and require no supervision. I am a fast learner who adapts to change easily. I am very resourceful, and I have been told I am strong and hardworking, and I have good communication skills. I handle tasks with great care, and I strive for constant improvement professionally and personally.
