As a student nurse, I spent time working at various hospital units at Chilliwack General, Surrey Memorial, Langley Memorial, BC Children's, and Abbotsford Regional.
My learning experience during clinical rotations included exposure to long-term care, medical, community health, psychiatry, pediatrics, maternity, and surgical nursing.
I completed 30 12-hour shifts during my final semester preceptorship working on the Medical/Oncology unit at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
During my preceptorship and clinical rotations I developed skills in taking routine vitals, head-to-toe assessments, proper documentation, glucometer checks, medication administration, wound care, nasogastric tube insertion, ostomy/colostomy care, palliative care, catheter insertion and removal, familiarity with chemotherapy administration, interaction with family members, and collaboration with other members of the health care team.
