  • Provide guidance and support in the area of corporate security and policing issues to other HoC departments and their staff as well as Members of Parliament (MPs) and their staff.
  • Act as coordinator between the various SAA departments (SPMO, OSINT,...), HoC departments (MP HR, Legal...), PPS and external partners (RCMP, CSIS, police of jurisdiction...) to provide Hoc employees, MPs, their family and staff with efficient security services meeting the highest standards.
  • Act as SAA representative at various meetings and briefings with partners (Ministry Liaison Team, INTERSEC, HoC Members Orientation Program,...).
  • Provide expertise, advice and support to other Sergeant-at-Arms (SAA) departments in their security activities (resolution of doubt interviews, missing key/fob investigation, trainings...).
  • Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures concerning the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms duties (investigations, Ministry Liaison Team meetings, Chamber security and armed response,...).
  • Ensure operational security in the HoC Chamber exercising delegated authority to maintain order and support the Speaker of the House, the Clerk of the House and other officials with respect to security matters.
  • Serve as first responder within the Chamber when replacing the Sergeant-at-Arms in his functions, leading emergency responses, implementing contingency protocols, managing evacuations, and responding to threats.
  • Represent the SAA in ceremonial functions (e.g. Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day, HoC Open House,...).
  • Contribute to the preparation of security threat and safety assessments and recommend particular protocols and measures to mitigate any risks both in the Chamber, in the Parliamentary precinct, in the House of Commons (HoC) satellite buildings and, when it comes to MPs; their Hill office, constituency office(s) and residence(s).
  • Advise and guide MPs and their employees, committees, service providers and HoC employees on best practices in operational security before, during or after an incident, and/or during HoC provided training.
  • Provide advice, direction, investigative knowledge and opinions to management including Human Resources, Labour Relations and Legal Services, when required.
  • Conduct the ongoing review of threat intelligence provided by security partners (PPS, RCMP, CSIS, INTERSECT and other agencies) and implement the appropriate protective measures.
  • Ensure the ongoing management of the Restricted Access List and its distribution to PPS and Senate Corporate Security Department (CSD).
  • Review and conduct in-depth research and investigations into inconclusive employee accreditation processes, conduct "Resolution of Doubt" interviews and make recommendations to Corporate Security Management.
  • Coordinate with external mail screening facility (SCI) to ensure that all mail intended for HoC and MP office recipients is vetted and secure before entering the Parliamentary Precinct.
  • Act as "on call" and "case manager" officer (SAA RM&I point of contact) on a rotational basis.
  • Acting Senior Manager for Risk Management and Investigations in the absence of the incumbent.
