I started my journey at Southeastern university studying Criminal Justice and Law. I was ready to start working instead of studying, so I veered my path to the construction field. I started as a green service technician helper, not knowing much about electricity, plumbing, HVAC, etc. All I knew is that electricity hurts when you take it off it's intended path. By the end of five years I had achieved the goal of becoming a certified Journeyman Electrician after completing trade school and passing the Journeyman test with the score of 82%. Within my last year with Dykes Electric I was lead electrician on projects involving commercial construction; one project in which I achieved clearance and certifications to work inside the gates of the industrial plant Shell (Port Allen). Out of the numerous coworkers and fellow students, I was one of few to complete and graduate at ABC Pelican Chapter located at Highland Rd., Baton Rouge. Through the course of working at Dykes Electric and attending ABC trade school I obtained many certifications concerning special software like Lutron, NFPA code, industrial electrical, etc. An opportunity presented itself to advance my career in the construction field as a building inspector with Louisiana Housing Corporation so I jumped in feet first. I started out as a level two Plans Examiner and within the following year I completed training with ICC as a Residential Building Inspector. I completed and passed the intense test to become an ICC certified Residential Building Inspector which came with the promotion of becoming a level three Plans Examiner. In this position I am responsible for monitoring and managing construction projects from start to finish. I work with everybody from developers of multi-million dollar developments to the part time laborers onsite. Goals of this position is to enforce and verify that new and rehab construction is built to applicable code and accessibility standards for our disabled citizens. During my employment here I have achieved more certifications concerning the Fair Housing Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act; I am working to solidify myself as an expert in the field of building code. I have learned how to manage a vast amount construction projects throughout all parishes of Louisiana along with visiting each site physically every two months. (Minimum 100 projects currently active with more upcoming as of 5/22/25).
