Had the opportunity to work with James Lamouche, a harvard grad and successful Indigenous entrepreneur. I learned valuable skills working alongside him; these include day to day business venture and back-end organizational skills. I had the chance to engage with Indigenous ways of knowing and to work within the community.
Was given the opportunity to work in an administrative role. I was able to gain valuable experience working with a budget, as well as the filing and organization needed within the office. Worked alongside a team of social workers in an environment that required collaboration on many tasks. Worked with excel, and developed strong computer skills. Learned the value of people skills, as we were tasked with interacting and accommodating an influx of underprivileged and troubled women and youth.
Worked alongside a team to provide services to customers. Developed a strong sense of customer service and people skills. Learned the value of a team in a work environment and was able to collaborate and establish strong connections. Was forced to learn fast, and to take initiative as it was common to be working alone. This meant organizing and taking care of the course duties at a high level to ensure proper protocol and administration.
Worked in various environments doing an array of tasks including fencing, grass-cutting, landscaping, etc. Presented a high variability in types of jobs needing completion which helped to establish a strong foundation of skills. These skills include, but are not limited to, work ethic, accountability, developing a strong sense of responsibility, working with a team, taking direction as well as being proactive.
Facilitated sports days with students of various grade levels. Mainly taught badminton as well as was offering myself as a role model to students who may suffer from various academic and personal adversities. Here, I grew as a leader and was able to help students put a face to the prospective future they may have in academics. As a university student, it was my job to promote the importance of education to a group of students who lacked curiousness or excitement in relation to the academic field.
Currently gaining valuable skills assisting low-income individuals with civil or family matters. This includes meeting with individuals to discuss their issues, and providing legal assistance or referrals. I have gained insight into the intricacies of working with people, and providing legal information in a manner that the average person can engage with.
Worked with inner-city students in a Math 10c classroom as part of my education degree. Helped students with any and all coursework as a teacher-aid. This included basic instruction, as well as tutoring. Worked within a diverse classroom with varying needs, and learned to adapt to a changing atmosphere on a daily basis. Developed an understanding of what it means to be a professional, and to work under a competent and experienced individual.
Worked 50-hour weeks maintaining oil leases around the Elk Point area. Learned valuable skills such as work-ethic through working in 35 degree weather conditions. Also gained experience through gaining various tickets and courses such as First Aid, H2S, WHMIS, etc.
