I have been a focused and dedicated Elementary school teacher for the past 33 years. 20 of the 33 years were spent teaching Kindergarten.
My career began at Florence Nightingale Elementary, an Inner City School in South Vancouver. Here I taught morning and afternoon kindergarten until Full Day Kindergarten was introduced to Schools with Inner City Status.
I moved to Moberly Elementary in 1989. At that time Mobery was the largest Elementary school in Vancouver with over 900 students making up 37 Divisions. I taught one of seven kindergarten classes. Moberly is a very culturally diverse school with a student population that has various needs. At Moberly I taught Kindergarten for about 15 years, grade 6 for 2 years, grade 3 for 2 years, and Resource for 3 years. I retired from Moberly Elementary in September of of 2021.
I am very experienced in developing lesson plans and creating custom class materials. I firmly believe that Students learn best when they are in a comfortable, safe, and supportive learning environment. This is especially to be true when students are in the younger years and just beginning school. I am an effective communicator when speaking with parents. Over the years I have had very many students with Special Needs and had behaviors that needed special attention and adaptations. My classroom management skills have allowed students to learn in a structured setting where they are able to grow academically and socially in a comfortable inclusive setting.
In addition to a long and very rewarding career in Elementary Education, I am a mother of four. All four of my children have completed Elementary School and High School in the Richmond School District. I have been involved with the education and extra curricular activities for all four of my children. This involvement has been extensive ranging from organizing Family Fun Nights and Fundraisers to Co-chairing Dry Grad. I have spent countless hours driving student to, and of course watching basketball, volleyball, and hockey games. My whole adult life has centered around being with children and I wouldn't have had it any other way!
