Summary

I have eight years of experience working with a diverse student population, including DI Students, FYE, SYE, Hispanics in Higher Education, transfer Students, and Dual Enrollment students. I provide comprehensive academic planning, transfer support and academic resources to help students thrive in higher education. Currently, I am a Counseling Instructor at LA City College with seven years of experience working with first-year experience students and LAUSD dual enrollment students facilitating Career Planning and Intro to College Success courses. Additionally, I have experience working with special grant funded programs such as Project CHESS at Moorpark College, an equity program that addresses the needs of underrepresented students, transfer students, and historically minorities men of color. My most current role as a Transfer Counselor at Pasadena City College includes working with students in their transfer journey to 4yr institutions.

Transfer Counselor

  • Assist students with comprehensive educational planning and transfer support to UC/CSUs, private, and out-of-state institutions as well highly selective schools.
  • Work closely with first and second year students in guiding them with their transfer process utilizing many tools such as assist.org,CAL-GETC, IGETC, CSUGEs and school specific major criteria requirements.
  • Facilitate workshops for Transfer Admissions Guarantees (TAG, TSP) that secures admission into UCs CSUs, and other private and public colleges and universities.
  • Other workshops include Ticket to Transfer 101 workshops for incoming first year students to explain students the process to CSUs, UCs, private institutions, and out-of-state schools
  • Lead additional workshops covering step-by-step application process to CSU, UC, and Common Application, as well as “Next Steps” after transfer.
  • Help students with UC/CSU transfer academic updates and supplemental applications.
  • Support students with class selection, degree petitions, transcript evaluation requests and various petitions including AD-Ts verification, academic renewals, excused withdrawals, pre-requisites challenges forms etc.
  • Assist students with appeals to UCs and CSUs by identifying the reasons for denial and providing guidance on how to present compelling evidence for appeal.
  • Participate in various campus events such as Fall Grind Week, University Day, HBCU Caravan, 3-day summer bootcamp, and graduation ceremony for Latine students.
  • Trained on how to review CSU/UCs/Common, TAG/TAP application during transfer season to identify and fix common errors.
  • Assist students with recommendations letters for CSU EOP program.
  • Review PIQs and provide feedback for students.
