Heavy Equipment Student Technician

Cambrian College, Sudbury, Canada I Sept. 2023 – April 2025

  • Gained hands-on experience in workshop health and safety protocols.
  • Trained in diagnosing and troubleshooting both starting and charging systems (batteries, starters, alternators, solenoids, and magnetic switches).
  • Developed knowledge about the mechanics and operation of a variety of heavy equipment diesel engines and their fuel subsystems.
  • Successfully disassembled and reassembled: Cummins QSL9 engine, Detroit DD15 engine, gear pumps, vane pumps, and axial piston pumps, hydraulic wet disc brakes and alternators.
  • Familiar with different types of foundation brakes used on both highway and offload heavy equipment such as: shoes C drums, caliper C rotor, and single C multi wet disc brakes.
  • Trained to perform MIG welding as well as oxy-acetylene welding C cutting.
  • Familiar with track drive undercarriage systems as well as some working attachments used in the heavy equipment industry.
