Work History

Postdoc Research Fellow

Centre of Urban Energy, Ryerson University
11.2023 - Current
  • Investigated international standards for grid integration of distributed energy resources (DERs), including IEEE Std 1547-2018 and associated technical reports published by EPRI and NERC.
  • Conducted transient modeling of sample 27.6 kV distribution system in Canada populated by distributed energy resources (DERs), including inverter-based and synchronous generator-based systems.
  • Analyzed impact of high DER penetration on transient behavior of distribution systems during fault conditions using MATLAB/SIMULINK and EMTP software.
  • Developed new methodology for aggregating grid-following, grid-forming, and synchronous generator-based DERs to reduce system order for electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation.
  • Created new phasor model for grid-following DERs, integrating phase-locked loop (PLL) dynamics to capture its effects on stability and power injection patterns in phasor-based simulation software.
  • Developed new control scheme to prevent transient overvoltage and subsequent trips of grid-following DERs after fault clearance.
  • Currently working on new control scheme to enhance PLL capability and preserve stability of grid-following inverters under weak grid conditions.

Assistant Professor

Electrical Engineering Department, BU-Ali Sina University
09.2017 - 08.2023
  • Full Lecturer for courses such as Power System Analysis, Industrial Electronics, Electrical Machines, Power System Dynamics, FACTS & HVDC, Signals and Systems, Modern Control Systems, Digital Control Systems, and Nonlinear Control.
Supervised MSc theses focused on Fault Ride Through (FRT) capability of Grid Forming and Grid Following Converters, Primary frequency control using PV power plants, over voltage prevention in distribution networks (DN) with high penetration of DERs, and single and networked AC Microgrid operation and dynamic.
