Selected to an 8-person Board of Directors for the Mohawk Students’ Association, representing over 20,000 students in high-level governance, disciplinary, and fiduciary matters. Responsible for decisions ranging from $500 to $10 million within an organization managing 8-figure financial balances. Volunteered for this leadership role while maintaining a full-time academic course load, a part-time job, and consistently achieving Dean’s List honours in all four semesters of the Paralegal program. Duties included reviewing and approving high-value budgets and capital expenditures at monthly board meetings, while working collaboratively with senior institutional leaders, Presidents, Deans, Directors, and other internal and external stakeholders to deliver service outcomes, and uphold institutional governance.
Key Successes:
- Spearheaded the creation of a draft proposal for the Liberal and various government agencies to achieve significant policy changes in student housing and food security.
- Consistently volunteered 30+ hours per month on a target of 15 hours, while maintaining a full-time course load, and earning Dean’s List honours across all four semesters.
- Played an integral role in the first-ever twelve-person Academic Integrity Committee and task force addressing technological shifts in AI and their impact on academic conduct.
- Successfully initiated, and sustained conversations with various stakeholders, including; Vice Presidents, Deans, Associate Deans, Directors, and or Managers, and government officials, leading to the development of a professional proposal that resulted in a $500k+ budget reallocation towards affordable housing and subsidized food initiatives.
