Projects

Chemistry & Chemical Engineering Applied Laboratory,

Team Member: 09/20/24 - 12/20/24

  • Designed an experiment to determine the unknown concentration of copper in copper ore samples from two different sources
  • Four - step procedure was executed consisting of an extraction process, diluted sample preparations, and analysis using complexometric titration and spectroscopy
  • Statistical methods were used to determine possible outliers, difference in means, and percent error
  • Concentrations were determined with 0.103 and 0.16 percent error for both samples respectively

Research & Development Team at Carlisle Weatherproofing Technologies, Team Member

Evaluation of different raw materials in existing company products. Made the greatest impact on three main projects:

  • Sustainability project: Using company waste (polyiso dust) as a substitute for cellulose fibre in roof patch & sealant formulas
  • Substituting a different supplier of latex in a white roof sealant formula because the company needs to find a new supplier
  • Substituting asphalt cutback instead of several roof patching and roof sealant formulas
  • Prepared all samples using lab - scale mixers by following batchcards, to create a 'control', then substituting raw materials to create samples, and determining the appropriate blade / shear rate to use for each formula

Testing methods:

  • Researched and performed specific ASTM testing specifications which varied by product for each sample in order to compare test results to a control batch with the original raw material; usually consisted of the methods outlined in the skills section
  • Analyzed the data using excel and other simple statistical methods to determine next steps

Engineering Strategies and Practice,

Team Leader, Project Manager: 09/01/23 - 04/30/24

  • Implemented the engineering design process to create a Conceptual Design Specifications (CDS) documents which addressed an interdisciplinary issues
  • Demonstrated teamwork, leadership, collaborative thinking, project management, and flexibility
  • Developed a prototype for a motion detector using AutoCAD, arduino and 3D printer
