Miriam Zittell

Co-founder and owner of Mellah Rugs. A boutique rug store at 373 Roncesvalles Ave. in Toronto. www.mellah.ca. Established a trusted and elevated brick and mortar, and online retail concept for import and design of Moroccan rugs. Manage all aspects of the business from filling HST to sweeping the sidewalk in front of the store.

Lead conceptual design research and development. Managed a team 6 direct reports. Traveled domestically and internationally to research fabric and vintage themes. Provided direction to design team members to create cohesive concepts. Approved all technical sketches before passing to sample room. Managed design calendar. Coordinated with product development to direct prototype development with in- house and outside samples rooms. Coordinated with sales and merchandising teams to ensure collection met their needs. Responsible for working with fabric and trim teams to develop and source materials within budget. Responsible for working with production teams to approve garments for production. Worked on marketing, fashion shows and all creative related to the brand. Assisted Creative Director on running Theory mainline studio as well.

Worked hand in hand with the design and sample room to implement construction of all styles from development through production through fittings and sample evaluations. Responsible garment fit integrity and functionality. Executed tech packs from concept to TOP including written comments on fit, construction and trims, washes, technical renderings by hand, Illustrator and Photoshop. Worked on wash, sanding and other fabric treatment techniques for production.

Assisted and supported designers in developing collection from conception to presentation. Assisted in concept board process, sketching and styling collection, spec'ing garments, tech packs. Attended fittings, sales meetings and product launches.
