Summary

Scientist with significant experience in research methodologies, data analysis, and scientific communication. Strongly self motivated with a high degree of interest in using mathematical tools such as statistics, AI and simulation to gain a deep understanding of real-world systems. In the age of information, I don't believe that a cursory-level of understanding of data will allow companies to excel within their market. The insights that remain in order to gain a market advantage reside within mathematical spaces which humans are not able to intuit, and mathematical modeling such as AI and simulation provide a window into these otherwise hidden patterns. Peeling back complex systems and discovering new insights is what is most exciting about data science to me.

Work History

Research Scientist

Self Employed
10.2024 - Current
  • Investigated the technical feasibility of using electromagnetic sensing to detect leaks in municipal water systems.
  • Developed a computational electromagnetics model which simulates electromagnetic interactions with arbitrary materials.
  • Developed a probabilistic algorithm to map low signal-to-noise-ratio sensor output to a 3D image of the surrounding environment in order to detect water-content anomalies.

Senior Researcher

Gastops
01.2023 - 10.2024
  • Used simulation data to produce and compare several statistical and Principle-Component-Analysis-preprocessed machine learning predictive models of machine-lubrication-contaminant composition and topology.
  • Regularly performed algorithms for feature-extraction using Fourier and Wavelet analysis as well as Principal Component Analysis.
  • Acted as the SME for probabilistic analyses within a range of projects which use spectroscopic inputs to determine the composition and quantity of oil contaminants in heavy machinery.
Simulated and designed improvements to Gastops' induction-based sensors.
  • Created a custom electromagnetic Finite Element Analysis model of the Gastops sensor in C++ and Matlab in order to minimize numerical noise which was prevalent in off-the-shelf EM Finite Element Analysis products.

Junior Researcher / Product Developer

Gastops
05.2012 - 12.2022
  • Designed a novel, physics-based probabilistic algorithm which was able to greatly improve the performance of the x-ray-fluorescence-based wear-debris analyzer.
  • Supported engineering development tasks such as the design and testing of an induction-based wear-debris sensor as well as an x-ray-fluorescence-based wear-debris analyzer.
