Appointed to a newly created Group Executive role to support CEO and Board in driving growth and differentiation. Responsibilities included supporting our existing businesses via functions including strategy, corporate development and partnerships as well as the development of net new growth opportunities via the creation of an industry leading innovation platform - RBC Ventures.


Founded RBC Ventures with a mandate to reimagine the role the Bank plays in our clients' lives by developing capabilities/businesses beyond banking. From a standing start in late 2017, RBC Ventures organically built and launched over 30 new Ventures and acquired 5 companies spanning home, b2b, b2c, mobility and health/wellness. RBC Ventures is wholly owned and boasts a talented team of over 400 professionals, serving ~ 4MM subscribers and working with over 100 + partners to deliver significantly higher client growth to RBC in key segments, to gain access to adjacent profit pools and to provide more value for our clients. RBC Ventures created industry leaders including Ampli, Dr. Bill, Ownr and MyDoh and secured partnerships with over 100 companies to support growth including Lowes/Rona, DoorDash and Rexall.

Executive Vice President, Personal Finance

Responsible for leading RBC's Canadian consumer lending businesses including Mortgage, Personal Unsecured Lending, Automotive Finance and Student Lending through 1200 branches and over 1300 mortgage sales specialists. In addition, had bank-wide accountability for Client Segment Strategy and Portfolio

Management/Credit Strategies (scorecard development, risk modeling, PCL forecasting, reporting and capital allocation). Personal Finance is the largest business segment of the Bank with over $300 billion in assets and NIAT of over $1.7 billion.

Was promoted to Executive Vice President within 2 years and given added responsibility for the United States and Caribbean. Served as Head of U.S. Banking and Chairman of the Board of RBC Bank USA ($5B OCC regulated bank focused on cross border Canadian and U.S. Wealth Management clients). Was appointed Chairman of the Risk Committee of RBC Financial Caribbean ($13B, 21 countries) with additional responsibility for developing turn around strategy and supporting management with business transformation.

Supporting RBC CEO and working closely with the Board, was tasked with creating a dedicated strategy/corporate development team to determine long-term plan for broader U.S. banking. A plan focused on high-net-worth individuals and commercial/corporate banking in key urban markets was approved leading to the announced acquisition of City National Bank in January 2015. Named Integration Executive working closely with RBC CEO and CNB CEO to ensure seamless integration and execution of business strategy. Appointed Director of City National Bank Board.


· Developed and launched innovative product, pricing and marketing strategies throughout Personal Finance resulting in industry leading performance ($1.7B NIAT, 55% ROE, 32% Efficiency Ratio)

· Led RBC's largest IT/infrastructure program (Retail Credit Transformation) involving total redesign of the end-to-end lending process across all channels ($300MM SAP implementation)

· Led strategy and negotiations for the successful acquisition of Ally Financial for $1.4B ($12B assets consumer/commercial automotive finance company) in 2012 making RBC Auto Finance #1 in consumer and commercial financing. In addition, secured multi-year agreement with GM to provide subvented financing through GM Canada dealers (~ $2B annual deal flow)

Responsible for the leadership of the consumer banking segment of Capital One Bank. Reporting directly to the Bank President, oversaw finance, strategy, product management, risk management, marketing and customer experience for ~ 1000 banking centers as well as a national Direct Bank.


· Overall P&L responsibility for $2B in top line revenue, $400MM NIAT and 6MM clients

· Developed multi-year strategy to drive segment performance following the completion of 2 bank integrations – focused on innovative product design, channel optimization/integration and the introduction of deep analytical rigor in acquisition and portfolio management programs.

· Led organic deposit growth of over $20 billion in 2 years while improving deposit margins and increasing checking production at ~3X industry average growth through innovative product launches (e.g. Rewards Checking, Smart Cents, Interest Plus Savings), pricing analytics and marketing.

· Led bank data warehouse initiative and developed analytical center of excellence to support product, channel and marketing initiatives.

· Launched several strategic technology initiatives including real time offer management, instant online account opening, integrated consumer lending platform and Capital One's first integrated online banking platform.

· Grew national Direct Bank to top 2 industry position (~$45B deposits) with liquid deposit CAGR of ~ 30% and JD Powers Excellence Award recognition in both 2009 and 2010.

Full P&L responsibility, 500 FTE (250 Loan Consultants). Developed new strategy to focus on existing clients, enhance risk practices and recruited new leadership team including COO, CRO and CFO.

Serving initially in Corporate Development, worked as part of the leadership team to assess the U.S. market ultimately leading to the acquisition of Hibernia National Bank (and later North Fork Bank and Chevy Chase F.S.B.). Following the acquisitions, provided leadership for integration including products, systems, channels, marketing and customer experience. From no Internet banking or phone sales/fulfillment capabilities in 1999, Charter One was widely considered an industry leader in digital/direct banking by 2002 – driving considerable client and balance growth through non-branch channels. Led the development of an advanced technology platform (COSMOS) which integrated branch, phone and Internet capabilities across consumer banking, mortgages and small business – allowing for seamless and collaborative sales and service experiences.
