  • Staff Sergeant supports the Emergency Preparedness and maintains the Emergency Response Plan and Safety Plans for staff, faculty and students.The position provides assistance to the Superintendent of Special Constable Service in delivering and promoting effective responsible security and policing services for the University of Windsor
  • Staff Sergeant provides oversight of the Crime Prevention Special Constable and the Administrative Assistant as well as acts as back support for the Administrative Assistant for payroll. The Staff Sergeant acts as the liaison with Windsor Police upon the Superintendents request.
  • Essential qualifications consists of work experience of 3 to 5 years with Federal, Provincial, Municipal, University police/security. A thorough knowledge and comprehension of the Criminal Code of Canada and pertinent provincial legislation. Clear understanding of Common Law , Powers of Arrest, Charter of Rights, power and limitations of search and seizure, Breach of Peace, the rights of arrested persons.
  • The ability to deal with a crisis situation & work well in a team environment, maintain composure and stressful situations
  • Problem solve, think critically and possess sound computer knowledge
  • Skilled in mediation and conflict resolution techniques and have the ability to demonstrate good judgement , initiative and professional discretion with matters pertaining to law and police enforcement.
  • Complete Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Reports for the University of Windsor. ( CPTED ) reports assess the key principles such as natural surveillance, Access Control ,Territorial Reinforcement. the key is to improve safety where there is the potential of criminal behavior. The key is to implement safety measure and recommendations to improve safety for all that make use of the area.
