  • This is my graduating project at UBC, Master of Food and Resource Economics program. The Canada Food Price Report is an annual public report that utilizes Econometrics-based predictive analytics modeling to forecast Canadian food CPI.
  • Developed a 42-page reference manual that elaborates on Econometric and Machine Learning predictive models previously developed by other researchers in 2020. The reference manual significantly helped UBC Food and Resource Economics (FRE) faculty review and understand the logic of preceding works.
  • Developed and tested 6 ARIMAX (autoregressive integrated moving average with an exogenous variable) models and 2 SARIMAX models (seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average with an exogenous variable) using Python.
  • Successfully generated 16-month food CPI predictions for 8 broad food categories (Meat, Vegetables, Fruit, Dairy, Bakery, Fish, Restaurants, and Other) using ARIMAX and SARIMAX models.
  • Econometrics-based predictive models achieved a high prediction accuracy with MSE (mean squared error) of in-sample forecasts ranging from 0.163 to 17.395.
  • Developed a 25-page Appendix summarizing the ARIMAX and SARIMAX models' development steps and results. This Appendix helped UBC's researchers precisely understand the current methodologies utilized to generate CPI forecasts.
