1. Performs care duties and responsibilities in accordance with Menno Home policies and procedures and job routines and as outlined on the Elder Care Plan:

a) assisting elders with personal hygiene needs such as washing, bathing, dressing, using the washroom, shaving, skin care, hair care, mouth care, nail care, grooming, and basic care treatments as required. (This position is responsible for two afternoon baths).

b) distributing meals and nourishments. Assisting with meal distributing in the dining room, removal of used dishes, assisting elders with meals as required. (This position is responsible for serving the afternoon snack to the elders)

c) provides ambulation, restorative care, and assistance to elders as required.

2. Monitors, reports changes in the elder’s physical or mental condition to the supervisor.

3. Responds to elder call bells and provides appropriate assistance, in a timely manner, as required.

4. Positions, lifts, and turn elders to provide and maintain proper body alignment and comfort, using proper techniques, adhering to facility policy for use of transfer belts and care plan logos.

5. Performs charting duties accurately and clearly on the Clinical Record, including DOS records.

6. Encourages, supports, and participates as directed in the facility activity programs, including transporting elders to Activity programs.

7. Reports any shortage of supplies to nurse in charge.

8. Performs all duties in accordance with the written policies and procedures of Menno Home and the Nursing Department including Workplace Safety and Health policies and regulations.

9. Participates in the evaluation of care and/or service provided by the Nursing Department to elders under the Continuous Quality Improvement Program.

10. Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner and maintains work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.

11. Follows manufacturers’ instructions in the operation and use of all equipment and chemicals.

12. Alert to potential health and safety hazards and take appropriate action. Reports unsafe and hazardous working conditions and any equipment malfunctions to the nurse in charge and maintenance dept.

13. Knowledgeable of facility procedures for fire and environmental safety.

14. Performs duties in accordance with prescribed sanitation and infection control procedures.

15. Respects elders’ rights to dignity and privacy and performs duties in a courteous and respectful manner.

16. Works closely and cooperates with other staff and elders. Maintains good working relationships with other departments.

17. Participates in interdisciplinary care conferences, committees, and meetings, as required.

18. Responsible for the development and upgrading of his/her knowledge and skills as required. Attends inservice sessions and conferences as required.

19. May be required to perform other duties and functions related to this job description not exceeding above stated skills and capabilities.
