  • Head of legal programs and part of executive leadership at one of the largest non-profit organizations in the United States. Serve as the lead attorney at an organization of 130 staff. Lead strategic planning and oversee managers in areas of social justice and human rights for marginalized communities. Lead strategic initiative serving survivors of forced labor and human trafficking. Lead Bet Tzedek’s strategic partnerships with local and federal government agencies, community-based organizations, non-profit organizations, law enforcement and pro bono law firms. Work with the CEO, Development, Finance and Legal teams to support grant and fundraising efforts. Investigate and lead strategy in combatting labor exploitation in the garment industry, car wash industry and agriculture industry. Lead counsel on forced labor and human trafficking litigation; liaison with anti-trafficking coalitions and law enforcement agencies in responding to and preventing forced labor and human trafficking. Lead policy advocacy efforts to enhance enforcement of supply chain accountability in industries rampant with forced labor.
  • Directing Attorney – Economic Justice and Labor Rights August 2023 – February 2025 Directed the Employment Rights Project in providing representation and litigating labor exploitation and human trafficking in individual and class action cases on behalf of workers in low-wage industries in state and federal court. Thought leader on state and national policy efforts to enhance the rights of exploited workers and victims of human trafficking. Lead initiative to hold companies accountable for labor exploitation and human trafficking in their supply chain by assessing allegations, notifying potential wrong actors, and working towards a remedy and resolution, while seeking compensation for harmed workers and community members.
  • Supervise and manage substantive legal work performed by staff of 10, including intake and client representation, by reviewing legal work, conducting case reviews, and resolving escalated client- and case-related issues to ensure client legal needs are met at the highest of standards. Provide expertise in litigating cases of human trafficking and forced labor and identifying areas of humanitarian relief for our clients.
  • Interim Directing Attorney – Impact Litigation and Advocacy Lead impact litigation and policy advocacy efforts in the areas of workers’ rights, elder justice, and the rights of immigrant children and families through litigation, legislative and policy advocacy on a local, state and national level. Oversee and lead a team of policy attorneys.

  • Senior Staff Attorney February 2018 – August 2023 Litigated claims in federal court on behalf of abused immigration children and the right to asylum for child survivors of violence, abuse, and human trafficking. Expertise in litigating constitutional claims, and claims under the Administrative Procedure Act, and the TVPRA. Lead counsel in class action litigation J.L. v. Cuccinelli, 2019 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 218536 (N.D. Cal. 2018) resulting in the approval of humanitarian relief and services for approximately 3,000 immigrant children. Class counsel in national class action litigation J.O.P. v. D.H.S., Case No.: GJH-19-1944, (D. Md. 2019) representing a class of approximately 30,000 unaccompanied children applying for asylum.

GLOBAL EXPERIENCE

  • Hadsell Stormer Renick & Dai, Pasadena, CA August 2012 – February 2018 Litigated international human rights cases in supply chain accountability matters on behalf of victims of human trafficking and forced labor; represented individuals in claims of human trafficking in international litigation under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act and the Alien Torts Statute (Ratha v. Phatthana, Case No. 18-55041 (9th Cir. 2018)); worked in Cambodia to investigate human rights violations and gather evidence in support of claims of forced labor and human trafficking; worked closely with clients in various phases of litigation, including defending and taking depositions and appearing in state and federal court; hired, supervised and mentored law students and attorneys. Class counsel in Dukes v. Wal-Mart, Case No. C-01-2252-CRB (N.D. Cal. 2013), on behalf of a class of thousands of women in gender discrimination claims.
  • Global Justice Institute, Pepperdine Caruso School of Law September 2023 – September 2024 Served as a consultant and expert to the Institute on scaling their access to justice programs in Uganda and preparing best practices for a staff of Ugandan Attorneys; traveled to Uganda to supervise the work of American and Ugandan law students and attorneys. Helped launch the first public defender’s office in Uganda.
  • UCLA International Justice Clinic, Los Angeles, CA August 2010 - May 2011 Traveled to Liberia to conduct research and interview government officials, NGO workers, and others working with child victims of sexual violence and gender-based violence. Prepared a manual of best practices for the protection of victim-witnesses of gender-based violence in international tribunals and domestic courts. Identified barriers to accountability and prepared a report on my findings which was presented to Liberian government officials.
  • International Work 2004 – present Served with various NGOs throughout Mexico, Panama, Zambia, South Africa, Spain and Thailand working with women and children who have faced violence, human trafficking, and oppression. Traveled to each of these countries for varying amounts of time with organizations such as Every Orphan’s Hope, Mosaic Church, and Teen Mania Ministries; coordinated children’s camps for orphaned children; worked alongside the local church to meet the needs of the indigent community members; supported orphan sponsorships process by conducting interviews with children and connecting them with sponsors; taught English to refugee communities.
  • Student Action for Refugees, Cairo, Egypt January 2006 - June 2006 Course Instructor Taught English to Sudanese, Somali, and Eritrean refugees and supported them as they acclimated to life in Egypt.
