  • Monitor daily attendance of children; meet with families to assist in identifying and resolving frequent absenteeism issues. Provide crisis intervention referrals and continuous support to families; observe children for signs of abuse or neglect; refer possible child abuse cases to appropriate agency. Provide a variety of health and nutrition services for children accordance with established policies and procedures; participate in the implementation of health plans for identified children. Review child immunization records and verify required immunizations are current; explain immunization laws to families; notify parents of needed immunizations assure emergency cards are completed and updated monthly. Participate in the facilitation and preparation of health screenings; schedule vision, hearing, weight and height screenings; facilitate dental screenings; obtain parental consent forms prior to scheduled dental screening appointments; provide appropriate and timely referrals to health care providers; follow-up on health care provider referrals. Participate in the daily health inspection of children; conduct visual inspections for health conditions and communicable diseases such as lice, rashes and chicken pox; notify appropriate personnel of health conditions as appropriate. Provide pertinent child and family information to be documented in Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) for identified special education children. Administer routine first aid to children as needed; assist in assuring medication is dispensed according to physician instructions and District policy; utilize a variety of health instruments including thermometers, scales, vision charts and audiometers. Prepare and maintain a variety of records, files and reports related to assigned activities and families; assure compliance with applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations; maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information. Drive a vehicle to various sites to conduct work. May serve as a translator for teachers and interpret for parents and staff as assigned by the position. Attend a variety of meetings, in-service trainings and conferences; maintain current knowledge of program laws, codes, rules and regulations. Perform technical duties related to electronic data processing operations and systems for school sites and District departments. Operate a computer and assigned software applications including the student data systems, spreadsheets, and other related software. Generate various computer reports. Contribute to the planning and facilitation of family home activities to support classroom activities, family meetings and events, and parent education sessions that focus on child development and self-sufficiency issues identified by parents. Create and maintain a Family Resource Table that contributes to the emotional, social, physical and cognitive development of children and families. Mentor parents with children with special needs and/or behavioral concerns in the areas of building relationships within the educational system including communication and advocacy with teachers and administration. Make referrals and link children and parents to needed community services as identified during the Family Assessment and Family Partnership Agreement process; follow up on referrals to assure child and family needs are met. Develop relationships with community-based service providers especially targeting pregnant and parenting teen providers; access community resources for the delivery of parent education, information and group services; recruit community volunteers. Assist families in arranging for transportation to Head Start activities and community appointments to assure family participation in events and the delivery of services as needed. Lead the internal planning and involvement of parents in program transitions such as Early Head Start to Head Start and Head Start to kindergarten; develop working relationships with local schools to assist in the successful transition of children and families from Head Start to their next school of choice. Provide outside agency referrals to promote needed treatment and assure compliance with licensing and program requirements. Identify continuous improvement areas and recommend possible solutions. Assist in the planning, coordinating, facilitating and marketing of parent activities.
