Plan and follow the most efficient routes to minimize travel time, fuel consumption, and wear on the vehicle
Manage time effectively to meet delivery schedules, considering factors like traffic, weather, and road conditions
Depending on the job, drivers may be responsible for loading and unloading cargo, which could involve using equipment like forklifts
Verify and manage cargo-related paperwork, including bills of lading and manifests
Maintain regular communication with dispatchers to update them on the trip's progress, report any delays, and receive instructions
Interact with customers during pickups and deliveries, ensuring that all paperwork is signed and that any customer concerns are addressed
Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, rest periods, and fuel purchases, as required by law
Track expenses related to the trip, such as fuel, tolls, and lodging
Be prepared to handle vehicle breakdowns or accidents by following safety protocols and contacting the appropriate services
In some cases, truck drivers may need to administer basic first aid or take other safety measures in the event of an accident or emergency
Ensure that deliveries are made on time and in good condition
Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance when interacting with customers and the public
