  • Responsibilities: A part of a network of projects on saltmarsh and mudflat ecology, restoration, and conservation in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. As such, involved in all lab-related aspects of this research project from developing, testing, and implementing processing methodologies, collecting data, inputting data in spreadsheets, conducting preliminary data analysis in the form of graphing and simple statistical analyses, and reporting the results. Identification of salt marsh invertebrates, fish species, and vegetation. Dissect and perform gut content analyses of various salt marsh fish species. Grind fish specimens for stable isotope analyses. Assemble minnow traps and invertebrate traps. Deploy and pull minnow and invertebrate traps in various salt pools along coastal salt marshes in NB and NS. Identification, counting, and size classing of fish caught in minnow traps. Identification and counting invertebrates caught in invertebrate traps. Participate in identification and counting of vegetation and invertebrates along multiple transects per marsh site. Participated actively in regular meetings with other fellow saltmarsh researchers to discuss project updates, challenges, and project management plan during ongoing activities. Gain experience and practice skills in processing sediment and biological samples, microscopy, computer data entry and management, and thinking about the relationships to ecosystem services and ways of mitigating climate change.
