My name is Maddox Vander Ploeg, I am an aspiring first-year at the University of Western Ontario in the BMOS program. In high school, I was fortunate enough to gain experience leading and directing many clubs–President of the Athletic Council, President of the DECA team, and Executive member of the Student Council–which allowed me to develop and grow various skills. Being tasked with leading meetings and assigning roles to peers allowed me to sharpen my leadership skills, adaptability to situations, and on-the-spot problem-solving. These skills transferred seamlessly to my work as a flag football referee. I had to evaluate situations on the fly and deal with complaints from spectators and coaches.
