As a highly successful and effective public school teacher for the past 25 years, I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to any school environment. More specifically, lower income, disadvantaged, and Title ! schools have been my most successful positions. My other skills such as bi-lingual in Spanish, drums and percussion, and athletic background allow me to tap into students from all different backgrounds.
Even though I'm still working with school age children during the day, I've found teaching the Menfis staff of teachers and support staff has been much more effective, efficient, enjoyable, and especially productive.
They have easily understood my grammar based methodical and process driven strategy that has produced the highest level of development and tangible concrete results for many years among many different languages in California. Once you have " buy in" and they're sold on your approach, the sky's the limit. My approach smoothly crosses into Writer's Workshop and all areas of Language Arts as well.
Finally my level of Spanish speaking is proficient enough ( not entirely fluent yet, but improving each day in Colombia ) to provide that " bridge" and cross the language barrier most important when moving from emergent into proficiency themselves. ( BICS to CALPS .)
In sum, when I'm not busy now managing classroom behavior ( harder as a volunteer than full-time teacher ) I've found instructional minutes aren't wasted, and I can return back to maximizing instruction and efficiency at the highest level.
Throughout my entire career, students have shown two, four, and six years of language growth in a single year of instruction. I truly see the same results here as well in this setting.
Master teacher for classroom management for 3 years.
Community liaison planning and coordinating many events.
NCLB House teacher from years of experience.
Spear headed small group of teachers who volunteered an extra half hour each day to our bottom third readers. That year we were the 2nd highest performing school of 10,000 elementary schools in California. To cap that off our principal directed the major local , newspaper to my class for a big article and I'm on the front page the next day.....teaching an ESL lesson to the 12 different languages in my class that year. What an honor when Dr. Lee had 25 top teachers to choose from!
Mainly a CCLAD training certificate so useful in my ESL approach. ( Cross Cultural Language Acquisition Development )
