Work Experience

Renovation Assistant | MyPlan (Renovation Company)

Montréal QC - September 2024 to  Current

MyPlan is a small renovation outfit that does renovating in the Montreal and Greater Montreal area. This small team does a variety of renovating including interior and exterior work on residential homes. As a small renovating team, it is necessary to communicate with one another to accomplish the goals of each project safely and professionally. Lacking experience in this field meant a steep learning curve. Listening to instruction and developing new skills was absolutely necessary to be an asset in this team. Each workday provides a new challenge.

988 Canada (formerly Talksuicide and before that Canada Suicide Prevention Service) is a free crisis call / text line for Canadians who are struggling with suicide. This organization offers a safe space for Canadians to reach out and talk about their own issues, concerns, questions, etc. relating to suicide. There are many divisions within the 988 organization throughout Canada, most of which require workers to go into a physical workplace. The division I work for is an online division where all employees and volunteers work remotely across Canada. This unique division is only two years old but is rapidly expanding as the need to for suicide prevention is in high demand. Within this organization I work as a responder who supports fellow Canadians by taking calls from those who reach out using the 988 phone number. I work within a team of responders and a supervisor during shifts to coordinate call taking and offer one another support through our online group chats.

  • Interacting with coworkers in a compassionate manner and utilizing active listening skills to manage conflict in a calculated and calm way.
  • Managing responders on-shift by offering guidance and resolving conflicts when needed and multitasking with my own tasks as well.

This business has engrained itself into the Walkerville community through great service, community involvement and an excellent atmosphere for both employees and customers. I have been employed mainly at one of F&B's restaurants, Taloola's Cafe. Taloola's is a 15 year old Cafe that is a popular spot for locals to stop for coffee and food. Here I work as a member of the front of house and back of house team to prepare and deliver food out to customers along with taking orders and preparing drinks for customers.

  • This position requires strong time management skills in order to meet customers needs in a timely manner.
  • Patience and communication are key elements to ensure an excellent customer experience, especially during our busiest rushes. These elements are also paramount when working with other team members so the cafe can run smoothly and offer great service.

Peer Volunteer | Peer Support Centre

The Peer Support Centre was an inclusive space at the University of Windsor where students were able to meet with volunteer peer support workers to discuss any issues they were experiencing judgement free. As a peer support volunteer at the University of Windsor, I worked with other volunteers to offer support to fellow students through an online video chat format. In these online sessions our job as volunteers was to listen empathically to our visitors and offer campus and community resources that may be helpful to them. We also planned online outreach events to promote mental health and our services to students at the University.
