Caring for a wide variety of surgical patients post-operatively in the main operating room at the University of Alberta Hospital. The main focus in caring for these patient includes airway management, pain and nausea management, monitoring vital signs, closely monitoring for post- operative complications, collaborating with the medical team on post-operative patient care, facilitating timely specialized interventions, and providing comfort and reassurance to patients after surgery is completed.
Caring for post-operative open heart and lung surgery patients in a fast paced and high intensity unit. Care for these patients includes monitoring vitals, weaning sedation/waking patients post surgery, ECG interpretation, telemetry usage, IV medication usage including vasopressors, inotropes, and vasodilators, arterial blood gas interpretation, understanding and knowledge of ventilators, wound care, good team work and communication skills with the interdisplianry team, and other standard post operative care.
