This training includes six sites:
1) Bridges of America. Coordinator. Liaison between NOVA Southeastern University Forensic Practicum Faculty, site,and practicum students. Organize student schedule and correspond with site supervisor on schedules and tasks. Facilitate Individual and Group Psychotherapy adhering to Department of Corrections evidence base treatment manual for individuals with felony convictions. Assisted clients with gaining insights into substance use recovery, anger management, coping skills, cognitive distortions, relapse prevention, peer pressure, stress management, depression, anxiety, and community re-entry. Audited client charts to ensure treatment progress and student adherence to manualized treatment.
2) Department of Juvenile Justice. Facilitate Group Psychotherapy adhering to the NOVA Southeastern University-Center for Psychological Studies Juvenile Aggression Reduction Training program (JART). Provide psychoeducation to adolescent's in juvenile facility on substance use, coping strategies, parent hood, financial literacy, anxiety, depression, employment preparation, peer pressure, and anger management.
3) Paul Rein Detention Facility. Facilitate Group Psychotherapy adhering to NOVA Southeastern University- Center for Psychological Studies Survivor Therapy Empowerment Program (STEP) for women of
domestic violence. Provide psychoeducation on trauma,anger management, stress management, cycle of violence, substance abuse, safety planning, depression, anxiety, parenting skills, and relapse prevention. Conduct mental health assessments to identify treatment needs and develop client specific treatment goals for community re-entry.
4) Broward County Courthouse. Observe court proceedings in misdemeanor and felony mental health court. Track and compile information from criminal cases to develop a report on diagnosis, substance abuse, charges, outcome of case, psychological history, and re-entry needs.
5) Legal Aid. Conduct Forensic Assessment evaluating parental fitness, reunification, substance abuse, personality, intelligence, and general mental health. Provide forensic report to agency interpreting test findings and opining to parenting capacity and possibility for reunification.
6) West Palm Beach Detention Center. Conduct Biopsychosocial Intake Assessment to determine eligibility and maintenance on mental health unit. Participate in multi-disciplinary team meeting to fulfill requirements of Florida Department of Corrections. Trained in crisis intervention for incarcerated population. Provide solution focused Individual Psychotherapy.
