  • To finish off the day I don’t leave work until I make sure everyone gets off the hill safely and signs out, so that nobody gets left behind

Equipment Operator

Teck Coal

  • I started running grader at Teck in September of 2022
  • I run all the graders we have at Fording River (24M,16M and the new 24)
  • My task on a grader everyday is to ensure I keep the haul roads maintained up to our standards so nobody gets hurt
  • A big part of my job running equipment is maintaining proper radio communication with surrounding haul trucks and equipment
  • We are operating in an open pit mine setting so a majority of my work goes into fixing pit floors, maintaining haul roads and maintaining spoils.

  • I work a 4x4(2 days 2 nights 4 off) 12 hour shift + hot change schedule
  • The day begins with getting my haul truck unit and location from my dispatchers
  • Then I take a bus or pickup up to my haul truck where I begin my ground checks to ensure the truck is safe to operate
  • Then once my checks are complete I begin hauling, paying attention to the Wenco and 2 way radio so that I know which loading unit my dispatchers want me going to and what dump I am supposed to dump at
  • I operate an array of different trucks such as CAT 797F’s, Komatsu 980E’s and Komatsu 930E’s
